We were able to discuss 8 topics throughout our Hospital Pharmacy Virtual Internship. We discussed the Pharmacy
Therapeutics Committee in our first module, and I learnt that it advises the medical staff and hospital administration
on policy topics pertaining to medications and drug addiction. This committee is made up of physicians, pharmacists,
and other medical specialists who were chosen with the participation of the medical staff. In the second module, we
discussed the Drug Distribution System, which has a broad scope and may be seen from multiple perspective. For
this topic, I found that hospital pharmacy has a single main pharmacy that is in charge of supervising, supplying, and
regulating the usage of all pharmaceuticals in hospitals. The third topic is Proper Storage and Handling of
Pharmaceutical Products, and I taught how to make labels for the storage and conditions of pharmaceutical products
as well as understand the handling procedure. Medication History Taking is our fourth topic, and I learned that
medication reconciliation is crucial in maintaining patient safety. By decreasing and rectifying clinically relevant
medication errors, medication reconciliation has been proven to be an effective way to lower medication irregularities
and errors. Our fifth topic is Interpretation of Medication Order and Preparation of Labels, and I managed to learn how
to review and interpret each medication order, deal with any problems or ambiguities with it before drug is entered
into the dispensing system, as well as how to properly create a drug label based on a medication order. The ultimate
purpose of a compounding pharmacist in creating tailored drugs is to aid the practitioner and patient in achieving a
more favorable therapeutic outcome, I learned from the discussion on the sixth topic, Compounding Sterile
Preparations & Admixture Services. The seventh module, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, taught me a lot about patient
medical charts, which are both a legal record of the patient's medical information and a means of communication for
medical personnel. Regarding our previous topic, pharmaceutical waste management, we learned about a
pharmacist's roles and responsibilities in healthcare waste management as well as precautions to take when
disposing of cytotoxic waste. Without a doubt, even if our internship was completed online, I am glad to have learned
something that I may use when I work in a hospital in the future.
