Dear Madam or Sir,

I am writing with reference to your newspaper article in which you claimed that students are
lazy, poorly educated and do not contribute to society. I would like to state my thoughts on
this matter.

To begin with, I, for one, have not met a single student to whom this statement would apply.
Although the stress of everyday life and mostly the pressure from school may make some
students seem lazy and uncooperative, what most people tend to either overlook or ignore is
that laziness can be easily confused with emotional burnout. After all, all of us can have bad
days which due to stress sometimes extend to bad periods and I believe that it is vital to be
able to make the distinction between the two concepts and to be gentle and have sympathy
for one another.

Moreover, I firmly believe that even though the contribution of students and the youth to
society is underrated and few are the ones who give credit to it, it is the key to society’s
evolution. Today, there are many activities that students take initiative for the betterment of
society and to spread awareness for different causes. By doing these kinds of activities and
providing society with different views on different situations I consider that no one can deny
the students’ contribution to society.

Finally, I hope you will consider these thoughts and I look forward to reading your future
articles.

Yours faithfully,
Bianca Coti.
