Minimal Fiber DB loss requirement when using MOXA

single Mode fiber optic extenders.
Problem Description:
Recently HPS Technical support has observed a couple of installation cases where IOLINK errors
have been reported when using MOXA Fiber optic extender ICF-1150I-SSC-T (HPS-C). The
symptoms vary, usually errors on both IOLINK cables. Sometimes constant and sometimes
intermittently.

Analysis:
MOXA and Honeywell Technology team confirmed that based on the speed of the IOLINK application
the installation should guarantee a minimal signal dB loss. It’s recommended that the fiber signal dB
loss is between 3dB and 15dB for both Series C and PMIO IOLINK application.
***Note:This does not apply when using Multi mode Moxa FOE ICF-1150I-M-ST-T (HPS-C)

Resolution:
If your installation is using a short fiber or if you’re experiencing IOLINK errors, we recommend
performing fiber dB loss measurement. If dB loss is less then 3dB, an attenuator of 3dB or more
should be installed on your fiber.
Series C I/O User’s Guide will be updated to add the minimum dB loss requirement for fiber optic link.
