HANDOUT

Presentations

When putting presentations together, we should remember the basics. The following
information will offer some advice on structuring your presentation.

Introduction (how much time?)

Introduce yourself and your chosen subject.
Think about the first few seconds of interaction with your delegates. Make them relaxed and
ready for learning.

Objective (how much time?)

Remember, your objective sets the scene. Think about – Timing, Performance and Standard.
By writing a specific objective, you are half way to building a powerful presentation.

Case Study/Subject (how much time?)

How will your case study be delivered? Consider using videos, handouts, group discussion.
Ensure you have a good understanding of the case study or subject. Anticipate what questions
the delegates may ask. Preparation is the key.

Summary (how much time?)

Summarise your presentation to reaffirm the learning points.
The summary is your opportunity to implant the message into the delegates mind for a second
time.

Test understanding (how much time?)

Ask questions to test understanding of the subject.
Think about what questions you want to ask before-hand. The questions should be based
around your objective.

Re-visit objective (how much time?)

This ensures that your goal has been achieved for both you, and the delegates.

Remember
MUST, SHOULD and COULD cover. Always have something extra to fall back on (COULD)
and consider omitting information or slides, if a discussion is evolving that is worth exploring.
