Task 1A
Sample answers:
Candidate A: The pictures show a boy and his family
moving to a new place. In the first picture, the boy’s
father is reading a letter given by his employer. He
has been promoted to a higher position but his office
is in another state. The boy’s father feels sad after
reading the letter. That evening, he sits down with his
family to tell them the news. They need to move in a
month’s time. The boy is shocked. He feels reluctant to
leave because he is not ready to leave his friends. The
following week, the boy and his family start up their
things. The boy packs his things with a heavy heart.
To cheer him up, his mother organises a farewell party
and invites his friends over. His friends give him gifts
and words of encouragement to console him. They
promise to keep in touch with each other. After the
farewell party, the boy feels better and the following
day, the family moves to their new house.
Candidate B: I would feel very sad and upset if I have
to move to another state. This is because I have lived
here since I was born and feel very comfortable here.
Moving to another state would mean moving to a new
school and this terrifies me.
Task 1B
Sample answers:
Candidate B: The pictures show a girl taking part in
a beach clean-up event. In the first picture, the girl
is reading a poster on the school notice board. It is
about a beach clean-up at Pantai Putih on Saturday
morning. She decides to participate in the event. Her
father drops her off at the beach on Saturday morning.
Many boys and girls from nearby schools are already
there. The beach is looking dirty with dry leaves and
twigs, polystyrene containers, straws and drink cans.
Each participant is given a pair of gloves and a garbage
bag. The girl wears the gloves to protect her hands
while picking up the rubbish. She joins the other
participants to pick up the rubbish. They start at one
end of the beach and move to the other end, picking
up rubbish along the way. After two hours, the beach
is clean again. Everyone is exhausted but happy and
proud to be able to contribute to the cleanliness of
Pantai Putih.

events in my housing area. We usually have clean-up
events once a month. My family and I take part in the
event to keep our housing area clean and beautiful.

Suggested answer:
Candidate A : What do you think we should get for
Adeline as a farewell present?
Candidate B : I believe a photo frame with a picture of
all of us would be a good idea because
it will remind her of us. We can engrave
the words ‘Form 3 Dahlia’ on the photo
frame for a personalised look.
Candidate A : Yes, I think you are right. That would
be a very personalised gift. How about
a bouquet of flowers? I’m sure you know
Adeline loves roses, especially red roses.
However, I do not think a bouquet of
roses would be worth it because it is not
only pricey but also not long-lasting.
Once the flowers wither, it does not
serve any purpose.
Candidate B : Unless if she makes it into potpourri
and decorates her room with it. Perhaps
we can skip that idea. How about a
farewell card?
Candidate A : I think a card would be wonderful to
go with the present that we decide to
get for her. We can get all our friends
to write her a message which she can
read whenever she misses us.
Candidate B : Yes, that is a great idea. Do you think
she would like a watch or a storybook?
Candidate A : I think a watch would be a practical
farewell gift. She can wear it to school
every day and I think it will make a great
gift On the other hand, a storybook
would not be a unique gift.
Candidate B : I absolutely agree with you. How about
a T-shirt?
Candidate A : Well, I think she already has many
T-shirts. So, it would not be special.
We can however personalise the T-shirt
with a picture of all of us. But it cannot
be done in a week’s time. I think the
best farewell present to give Adeline is
a watch and a farewell card. What do
you think?
Candidate B : Yes, I totally agree with you.
