Lim Kai Yi

Positional player with a few tactics up his sleeve. His preference of 1. d4 over 1.
e4 nowadays further accentuates this. Spots brilliant tactics stemmed from
sacrifices often.
Openings (as white):
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 - Italian Game.
Quiet opening. Familiar with playing the Two Knight's Defence (1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bc4 Nf6), less familiar with Giuoco Piano (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5).
1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 - Bishop's Opening.
Aims to develop Bishop quickly. Last used in December 2021.
1. d4 d5 2. e4 dxe4 - Blackmar Gambit.
His favourite weapon nowadays. Usually turns into the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit (1. d4
d5 2. e4 dxe4 3. Nc3). Never considered incredibly sound. Stockfish gives a -0.8
advantage for Black
after 3. Nc3.
1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 - Indian Game.
I once told him to play 2. c4 after 1. d4, just to transpose into my favourite
Grunfeld Defence.

Openings (as Black):

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 - Petrov's Defence.
Played this recently. Drawish opening with a 56% win rate for him. Perhaps he got
the inspiration from YJ.

Ang Yong Jun

Aggresive player who only plays 1. e4. Will attack if he finds an opening. Usually
just plays around with intuition - which usually works.
Openings (as white):
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 - Scotch Game.
The opening that sets him apart from KY. He prefers to be aggresive as quickly as
possible, with the possibility he becomes too reckless.
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3
Develops the Knights before attacking. Played recently against Angelyn.

Openings (as Black):

1. e4 d5 - Scandinavian Defence.
Very aggresive opening choice, attacking the centre immediately. However, can be
pushed around for a few moves.
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 - Petrov's Defence.
Attacking the centre pawn immediately with a Knight. A pawn for a pawn.

Leong Tin Yuet

Principled player who blunders a bit. Haven't played him before.
Openings (as White):
1. e4 e5 2. d3 - King's Pawn: Leonardis Variation.
Weird opening: but it takes his opponent out of book preperation quickly. 2. d3
blocks the light-squared Bishop immediately, so it's pasive nature can be taken
advantage of.

Openings (as Black):

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f6 - Damiano's Defence.
Disastrous opening. In this position, the Knight sacrifice (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f6 3.
Nxe5 fxe5) followed by 4. Qh5+ g6 5. Qxe5+ forks the King and Rook.
1. d4 e6 2. e4 d6 - Rat Defence.
According to my research, all openings named after animals cause you to play like
one. Here Black sacrifices his centre control for unknown compensation.

Angelyn Soong
Player showing steady improvement.
Openings (as White):
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d3 - King's Knight Opening: Normal Variation.
The idea is to bring out the dark-squared bishop, but the light-squared bishop is
confined behind the d-pawn.
