Analysis (Activity 8.

Isabella Sansonini
In my head, I interpreted this transcript a little different than how it was outlined in the student
response. Rather than it seeming as a professional interview, the way they are speaking seems a little
more familiar and friendly; despite Andrew’s obvious hesitance and nervousness, he doesn’t seemed
focused whatsoever on how to speak to the interviewer which suggests an unspoken comfort between
the two. They could be friends, or simply Andrew is too distracted to care much about the interviewer.
Not to mention, the interviewer provides comforting words like “you’ll be fine” and suggesting that
Andrew’s friends will watch him do whatever he’s hesitating on doing. To add on, I believe that perhaps
Andrew is also anxious about what his friends will think or say- my evidence on this belief is when the
interviewer asks “do you have friends here”, Andrew responded in his following utterance that he
“doesn’t have much confidence” – whether this was a response to the question I stated or to a different
part of the interviewer’s utterance, Is a little unclear; to continue, the interviewer also adds the
statement “your friends want you to do this”. My question is, why would he say this if Andrew was not
worried about what his friends would say rather than/along with the stunt he’s going to pull? Again, it’s
a little unclear overall. It seems that Andrew’s anxiousness may cloud his judgement and ability to
respond to the interviewer clearly.
