ASSIGNMENT 6 (Observing a student): Discretely observe one student in your assigned

classroom during an extended period of direct instruction.

Detail what was going on in the environment, and what you observed the student doing while the
lesson was being given. Make sure to document ALL behavior in relationship to what was being
presented by the classroom teacher. Please describe the setting, the lesson that was given, if the
student was on task and engaged in the lesson, and what you uncovered about putting yourself in
a lesson from the student’s point of view. >>>

The student was engaged in the classroom, they would at times use their hands to do
something. Such as a ghost writing a word, or counting to a number. Sometimes they would
have difficulty in understanding a subject, but wouldn’t be afraid to ask questions. I saw this
especially when the teacher was explaining groups/couples, and after seeing the visuals the
teacher showed by using students she seemed to understand by thinking of it that way. Making
me think she was a visual learner, as she seemed to grasp certain lessons better when a visual
was used, which the often were.
