ASSIGNMENT 7 (Summary): Thoroughly summarize and reflect upon your entire 10 hour
Field Observation Placement.

>>>

I have previously done a field observation, so the process of contacting the school’s principal
wasn’t lengthy, in a matter of a day we had a confirmed date. When I arrived, the staff
recognized me, had me sign in, and sent me off. The process was similar for all the other times
I would go in the future, though from day 2 to the rest they would give me a visitors badge and
I would give it back whenever I left.

On the first day I went to the same teacher I had gone to in my previous field observation,
however, she knew that I wanted to teach kindergarten from a previous statement I had made
so she made an arrangement for me to go to a kindergarten class this time around.

In kindergarten, the teacher believed in hands-on methods and told me to frequently interact
with the students, and would treat me like a classroom aide, rather than a student observer. I
really enjoyed that as I felt I could observe more through this, Otherwise I felt the students
would be too aware of my presence and I wouldn’t have been able to observe them naturally.

I would walk with them to lunch and while the teacher would go to her own lunch, I would
stay and help students, then we would recess where I would monitor along with some other
teachers/staff. I didn’t mind this as I would often come around 10 in the morning, so I
wouldn’t be hungry until 1 or 2 in the afternoon, which was when I would leave.

There was one time when the teacher collaborated with another teacher and taught a mini-
lesson, on lemonade and gave lemonade out. The lemons were grown from the schools trees.
