I realize that wellness is important because everything we do and every motion we feel
relates to our well-being. Our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions. That is
why it is important for everyone to achieve optimal wellness in order to subdue stress,
reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions. In addition, I realize that creating
balance in our lives is an important part of wellness. Balance means making sure we have
time to do the things that makes us feel happy and fulfilled. This includes working, having
fun, participating in the community, being physically active, praying, relaxing, sleeping,
spending time with family and friends

People should know that wellness is more than being free from illness; it is the spirited
process of change and growth that lasts for a lifetime. They should be aware that wellness is
an intentional, ongoing and holistic approach to making healthy choices for in eight major
areas of life functioning. These eight major areas are physical, intellectual, emotional,
spiritual, financial, social, occupational, and environmental. People should also know that
wellness is important especially as we age because regular exercise and proper nutrition can
help us prevent a variety of ailments including cardiovascular disease, obesity, and fall risk
behaviors.
