1. Why was there a snap election on February of 1986?

Marcos proclaimed himself victorious in the snap elections and was set to retain the presidency; on
the same day, Corazon C. Aquino led a people's victory rally at Luneta and called for civil
disobedience, which included the boycotting of known Marcos-crony institutions. It could also be due
to political pressure, as there was a snap election in the Philippines in 1986. Because many people
did not like Marcos' leadership then, there was pressure to have new leadership. Although Marcos
still won this election, some protesters said it resulted in "people power."

2. Compare Ferdinand Marcos and Corazon Aquino in terms of leadership.

From what I read in the book, Ferdinand Marcos' presidential initiatives were to significantly expand
the Philippine military. The economy and infrastructure of the country increased. The land reform was
given strength during the first term of his office as president of the Philippines, when 3,739 hectares
of land in Central Luzon were distributed to the farmers. During the time of the first female president
of the Philippines, Corazon Aquino, she focused on re-establishing a new form of government and
restoring peace in the country. She established the "Freedom Constitution."

3. What are the main contents of Cory's speech before the US Congress?

Former President Corazon Aquino's speech gives us insights into how the Filipinos struggled to
achieve independence and how the forced resistance from the past inspired Filipino revolutionaries in
our present time. It also sheds light on what really happened during Ninoy Aquino's time.

4. According to Cory Aquino, who served as the inspiration of the People Power revolution?

The 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution gathered millions of Filipinos from all walks of life to march
along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), the main artery of Metro Manila, to end the dictatorship
of President Ferdinand E. Marcos and begin a new era marked by true freedom and democracy.

5. Why did Marcos declare Martial Law in 1972?

According to Marcos, he declared the implementation of Martial Law for two reasons. First is to save
the Philippines from the hands of its enemies. Second is to establish a new society that can bring
prosperity, peace, and security to the Filipino people.
