Coronary artery
dissection
Autopsy of the
heart
Dissection of
the heart
Coronary artery dissection:
- Examined for calcification

- Serial transverse cross sections at about a gap of 5mm over the

fatty tissue lining the coronary arteries
HEART DISSECTION:
Methods of heart dissection:
1. Inflow-Outflow method (Virchow’s method)
2. Short axis method
3. Four chamber method
4. Long axis method
5. Base of heart method
6. Window method
7. Unrolling method
8. Partition method
9. Injection-corrosion method
Inflow-Outflow Method:

Right side:
1. First cut in mid of RA
2. Second cut behind rt border from RA to RV
3. Third cut along RV outflow tract via pulmonary valve. (1cm parallel to Anterior ventricular septum

Left side:
1. Between pulmonary veins
2. Left ventricle opened along its inferolateral border
3. To avoid damage to mitral valve, 1 cm parallel to anterior ventricular septum along the outflow tract.
Short Axis Method:

- The diaphragmatic surface of the heart is kept over the plate

- 1 to 1.5 cm thick slice of heart parallel to atrio-ventricular grooves are cut.
