RSA Refusal of Service Video Script

The document is a video by William Lay describing his responses to intoxicated patrons in two situations: refusing further service of alcohol and asking an intoxicated person to leave the premises. In the first situation, he politely explains that serving more alcohol would be against the law and could result in fines, and offers non-alcoholic drinks instead. In the second situation, he regretfully informs the patron they must leave due to intoxication for legal reasons, and arranges safe transportation home via cab or a sober friend.

RSA Video

Hi, My name is William Lay, and this is my short video regarding the case study showing my
responses to intoxicated patrons. Firstly, this is my response to when I’ll need to refuse service of
alcohol to an intoxicated customer.

“Hey mate, really sorry but you’re showing signs of intoxication, and I won’t be allowed to serve you
any alcohol. I know it’s a bit rough but there will be consequences if I serve you any more. Not only
could there be hefty fines of up for me and even more for my licensee, we just want you to have a
good night with no dramas, and wouldn’t want your health to be compromised. You might have
seen the signs around me already, stating that if we do spot any signs of intoxication in a patron, we
just can’t serve any more alcohol. Listen, I can offer you some water or soft drink if you like but I just
cant give you any more alcohol. Thanks for understanding mate.

This second part will be asking the intoxicated person to leave:

Hey, mate. Unfortunately I’ll need to ask you to leave as you are intoxicated. Sorry mate, it isn’t my
fault, it’s just the law. I can call up a cab for ya or ask one of your sober mates to take you home.
Again, sorry but it’s not my call whether you can stay, but it is illegal to have intoxicated patrons on
our licensed premises. I hate to be that guy, but you will be risking serious fines if you do stay here,
and I just want you to get home safely. Listen, what I’m gonna do is ask security to call up a cab
outside, and they’ll help you get home safe.
