ABSTRACT This research project is based on the challenges of small scale business enterprise in Kaduna polytechnics; a case study of business centres in Kaduna polytechnic. The choice of the subject matter is based on the way and manner by which small scale business enterprise is being run in the academic environment. Considering the rate at which small scale enterprise is degenerating as against growth and development, one is therefore compelled into researching as to whether instability of managerial factors such as planning coordinating and forecasting militate against growth and development or that inadequate funding constitutes the remote and immediate challenges faced by the small scale enterprises in Kaduna polytechnic. Hence, the necessity for this research works. In carrying out this study questionnaire were administered to both the owner and office assistants of the various business centres scattered in Kaduna polytechnic, between the hours of 9.00AM-12.00 noon on three (3) consecutive days i.e Monday-Wednesday respectively. In the course of the research, it was discovered that inadequate managerial factors, poor human relations, as well as inadequate funding constitutes the major remote and immediate challenges that are being faced by the small scale enterprises scattered in the Kaduna polytechnic environment. The suggestions and recommendations advanced at the end of this research work are directed towards addressing these lapses. e.g. Business owners should ensure that they use the best tools so that their output will be attractive to students and keep them afloat in case of competition i.e by sourcing for soft loans.
