Project 3: Reflection

Name: Hiba Kassab

Nowadays, and based on many studies I read before, I see that social media is recognized as the
most important tool in our lives, it’s considered as a life changer. But, like any technology concerns,
social media has pros and cons. For businesses, it’s a relatively new and fast-growing method for
companies to reach out clients. it may be able to offer clients with an infinite quantity of simple,
comprehensive information without the need for human interaction. But it can also be
disadvantaging; social media platforms should be followed up and updated regularly, so it takes the
most of your time.
Additionally, "fake news" is one of the most major disadvantages on the social media platform. In
general, fake news is a made-up news story that is published and promoted as if it were true. A lot of
misleading news is potentially destructive, malicious, and even dangerous. Because it actively
persuades people to adopt popular wrong concepts, it has a harmful impact on individuals and
society.
Even with technical advancements, this news is uncontrollable, and it is difficult to detect and
mitigate the dangers because we must increase people's awareness of the dangers of fake news.
After reading the three articles, my general perspective about social media was not changed in terms
of advantages and disadvantages, but the concepts were clarified in more details. It was changed
regarding to false news because I was under the impression that fake news is always spreading and
cannot be prevented or tracked. The researchers invented an algorithm that could detect fake news,
and based on people's interactions on social media.

Active reading strategies used during the analysis of the text:

I was identifying and clarifying any unknown phrases after reading each paragraph of each article,
and I was asking myself a few questions: what is the point of this paragraph? I was writing it down as
a note, then marking the essential terms that related to the core theme. Finally, I created a chart
with related phrases, and then I summarized what I learned from this article.
