Events of Taif

Q (b) Why did the Prophet (PBUH) visit Taif? [4]

P1:
- The land of Makkah was not fertile for his mission anymore.
- To preach Islam elsewhere.
- Preaching in the streets of Makkah was not safe for him anymore especially after the death of Abu
Talib and the appointment of Abu Lahab as the head of Banu Hashim who declared useless
protection for Prophet (PBUH).
- To gain the tribal security from the second largest tribe of Arabia; Banu Thaqeef and Hawazain.
- To achieve his objective of establishing a separate Islamic state.

P2:
- Taif was an oasis.
- It was 60 km from Makkah.
- People of Taif belonged to Banu Thaqeef and Hawazain; 2nd largest tribe of Arabia
- They were the worshippers of idol Lat.
- Prophet (PBUH) visited Taif in 10th YOP accompanied by Hazrat Zaid bin Harith (RZ).
- He invited the family of Umayr but they rejected him and his message.
- Invited the chiefs of Taif; Yalil, Masud and Habib.
- They insulted him and rejected his message.
- He (PBUH) stayed and preached at Taif for ten days.
- To pace up his departure, the chiefs appointed hooligans on him and Hazrat Zaid bin Harith (RZ).
- Discuss the tortures of street hooligans; abused, strangled, dragged, hooted, and pelted stones.
- The street hooligans pelted stones till three miles outside the city.
- They (Prophet and Hazrat Zaid) took shelter in the garden of Rabiah’s sons;
- There they nursed their wounds and then Prophet (PBUH) prayed to Allah seeking His help.
- Rabiah’s sons (Utbah and Shaybah) sent their slave Addas.
- (Addas was a Christian slave who belonged to Nineveh where H. Younous (A.S) was sent)
- Addas offered him grapes and paid him homage.
- He (PBUH) then set out from the garden and reached al-Qarn.
- Visit of Hazrat Jibrail and angel of mountains.

- He (PBUH) was offered revenge by crushing Taif between the mounts, Al-Akhsabain.
- He (PBUH) refused to take revenge and prayed for the Hidayah of people of Taif.

- Conversion of Jinns and their tribal members.
- He (PBUH) reached Cave Hira.
- He (PBUH) sought help from Akhnas, Sohail, and Al-Mutim.
- Al-Mutim offered him immunity and protocol till his house.
- He recalled the favor of Al-Mutim at the end of the battle of Badr.

Quotations
The angel of mountains greeted him and said: “O Mohammad! Order what you wish, if you like, I will
let Al-Akhshabain (the two mountains) fall on them”.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “No, I hope that Allah will let them beget children who will worship Allah
Alone, and will worship none besides Him”. (Agreed)
