DEFINITION OF TERMS
 OPERATIONS - concerned with the transformation of a range of inputs into the required output (services)
having the requisite quality level.
 MANAGEMENT - process which combines and transforms various resources used in the operations subsystem
of the organization into added services in a controlled manner as per the policies of the
organization.
 PRODUCT MANAGEMENT - The set of inter-related management activities, which are involved in
manufacturing certain products.
 OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT - The set of inter-related of management activities involved in
producing a product and managing services

WHAT IS OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT?

 Operations Management encompasses planning, implementing, and supervising the


production of goods or services.
 It is the area of management that is responsible for designing and managing the
production of a good or service in order to fulfill organizational goals.
 It is responsible for all aspects of converting materials and labor into goods and
services as efficiently as possible to maximize the profit of an organization.
 It manages resources such as materials, machines, technology, and people, and
make products that the marketplace wants.
 It is the administration of business practices to create the highest level of efficiency
possible within the organization.
