Poem : Leisure
Summary
In the poem 'Leisure' the poet 'W. H. Davies' wishes to convey that our life has
become very hectic and full of worries. People have no time to enjoy the simple
beauty and pleasures of nature. Paucity(shortage) of time has made man unable
to appreciate the beauty of the nature. Poet says that it is a pity that life is full of
worries and anxieties.
We hardly have any time to stand under the shady trees and stare freely at the
surrounding like sheep or cows do. As we pass through the woods, we have no
time to see where squirrel hide their nuts in the grass.
We have no time to see how rivers shine brightly under the daylight. Their
surface reflecting the sunlight seems like a star studded sky.
We have divorced ourselves from the nature and fail to appreciate the nature
dancing around us in all the natural things. This beauty spreads smiles around
and enriches our life but in the hustle and bustle of our hectic lifestyle we fail to
appreciate the bounties of nature. We don't observe the beautiful nature glancing
and smiling at us. The poet fells that we are leading a poor life full of worries and
frustrations and we have no leisure time to and stand and admire the natural
surroundings.
