Ways to reduce air pollution include catalytic converters and fuel efficient
engines.

Governments use various methods as well to reduce pollution:

1) Road Tax
Cars are taxed based on their emissions and various factors, such as fuel type,
engine size and CO2 emissions.
Lower emissions = Less tax

2) Annual Tests
Cars that are extremely old go through annual testing. If the CO2 emissions are too
high, the car must not be driven.

3) Congestion Charges
In certain cities, drivers must pay to use their cars at peak hours.

4) Fuel Prices
Increased fuel prices will discourage people from using cars. Hence, it encourages
people to use green alternatives.

5) Travel Restrictions
In some countries, drivers can only use their cars on certain days. (China is an
example of this.)

Governments can also use other methods. For example, the EU has determined that at
least 5.75% of fuel used for transport must be biofuel.
