1. What is discemment?
The simplest definition of discernment is the capacity to distinguish between
truth and error, right and wrong. In our pursuit of truth, discernment is the process of
drawing careful distinctions. In other words, being able to think biblically is the same
thing as being able to use discernment.

2. Why is discernment important?

As suggested by our Pope, we must employ a holistic approach to
discernment. The Holy Father went on to remark that discernment is a part of life and
that it is not always possible to be totally certain. And, referencing Saint Paul, he
remarked that even when we know what we need to do, we do not always carry it out.
In addition, discernment touches every aspect of the Christian life. In addition, God's
Word equips us with the wisdom necessary for navigating every aspect of life. The
ability to apply judgment in all aspects of one's life is the key to living a life without
compromise. For instance, if a Christian is incapable of distinguishing between truth
and error, he or she is susceptible to all sorts of erroneous teaching. False teaching
then leads to an unbiblical worldview, which results in an unfruitful and disobedient
lifestyle—a sure prescription for compromise. Consequently, we can state that
confirmation is crucially important.

3-5. What are the elements of discemment?

Prayer, understanding, information, reflection, decision, action, and Spiritual
direction are the elements of discernment. With these seven essential attitudes, one
has their satellite dish pointed in the right direction in order to receive God's signals.
In order to hear God's call through a real process of discernment, you must have these
qualities.

6-10. What is the most important element of discemment? Why?

I believe that prayer is the most essential element of discernment. Pope
Francis highlighted the significance of prayer. He stated that prayer is "an important
aid to spiritual discernment, particularly when the feelings are involved." Prayer, he
noted, enables us to "move beyond thinking and spontaneously enter into closeness
with the Lord." Pope Francis closed his catechesis with a prayer that we may grow in
the grace of living "in a friendship with the Lord, as a friend speaks to a friend."

well being of others

In this lifetime, we discern what it means to be honest, to treat others fairly, to

admit when we’re wrong, and to calculate the outcome of potential actions. Once, my
little brother broke the vase where my mother kept her favorite plant. My mother
treasured it, but it was accidentally knocked off the table as my younger brother
struggled to get the toy underneath the table. My brother began to bite his finger and
was sweating bullets. I know my mother would profusely nag about it. I've considered
the possibility that if my mother was blinded by her sudden rage, she might end up
wiping my brother's buttocks, causing trauma on his part. So, as an older sister (I
guess I was 8 years old at the time), I took all the blame and ended up being grounded
for a week. My innocent brother became guilty as a result, and he apologizes a
thousand times to me. This particular scenario leaves me perplexed in the sense that I
was in the process of making a careful decision. With this, I have pondered the idea
that discernment in these early stages helps us understand ourselves morally. As
Christians, we learn, through discernment, to identify what is Christ-like behavior and
what is not. Discernment helps us look at situations, pay attention to different clues,
think about how to make a decision, and make a good choice based on our faith and
our lives.
