The implicit bias are those feelings, behaviors and conscious attitudes towards a person, group or

population, the implicit bias in its most extreme manifestation is characterized by maintaining a

negative behavior and can manifest itself through behaviors of harassment, violence, and other

types of exclusion.

All the subconscious feelings, perceptions, attitudes, and prejudices that have arisen as a result of

previous influences and impressions are called implicit biases. (The Community Relations

Service, 2015)

Implicit bias exists when we act in ways toward other people without realizing it or when we

associate our stereotypes with them. For example, we often have stereotypes of other people

without even realizing it. Implicit bias frequently occurs in opposition to people's conscious and

expressed beliefs (Prentice, 2019)

I took the skin tone test I have always considered myself very inclusive with respect to ethnic

and racial diversity. This is due to the fact that for the last 6 years I have worked with the native

community of my country in education, and I know the damage that discrimination causes to

vulnerable or minority populations.

My surprise for this test was that I have a slight bias towards light skin tones, at first I was very

incredulous that a simple 10 minute test would know what I think and feel despite all my

experience and cultural background, then I realized that implicit bias could intervene by

associating certain positive or negative emotions to skin tones. As the theory indicates, we can

unconsciously have stereotypes contrary to our beliefs, perhaps very contrary to our way of

seeing life, but that does not mean that they do not exist, that they are not there.
