The word Constitution has been taken from a Latin word

“constituere” which means “establish”. Constitution means

“composition of something”.

U.S. was the first country to have a written constitution while

India’s constitution is the longest written constitution .

Constitutional morality basically means adherence to the core

principles of the constitution in a democracy. Constitution al
morality is not just limited to following the constitution al
provisions in their literal sense, but includes a commitment to an
inclusive and democratic political process in which both individual
and collective interests of the society are satisfied.

The concept of Constitution al Morality was first propounded by the

English classicist George Grote in “A History of Greece”, referring to
the complex value of what the written constitution stands for. By
constitution al morality, Grote meant "a paramount reverence for
the forms of the constitution , enforcing obedience to authority and
acting under and within these forms, yet combined with the habit of
open speech…".This is the traditional and conventional meaning of
Constitution al Morality, which has evolved with the changing
dynamics of different democracies worldwide. For Grote, the central
elements of constitution al morality were freedom and self-restraint.
Self-restraint was a precondition for maintaining freedom under
properly constitution al government

Constitution al morality is important for constitution al laws to be

effective. Without constitution al morality, the operation of a
constitution tends to become arbitrary, erratic, and capricious.
