Taking in to consideration of the global context, North Kanara district in Karnataka


state is a multilayered district which has long history of serving as a melting point of
different cultures. However, the massive arrival of rich migrants from North Karnataka,
South Kanara and after the formation of North Kanara District has added a new cultural
and economic layer which tends to impose itself on others, rather than merge
harmoniously with them.
Among these migrants, professionals and businessmen belonging to the Gowdas,
Goulis, and Devadiga castes form a dominant group. Because of their wealth and
influence, they have been able to spread their own culture in many parts of this district
District. This paper is based on a case study of North Kanara district and aims to
analyse the impact of migrants on the local culture and populations. The main objective
of the study is analysing the migrants and multi-cultural environments in the district
with the help of secondary data and some extent of primary data.
