INTRODUCTION
1. Company Overview
ETAB Soap Factory is a private company owned by Mr. EskinderTesfaye. It was first
established in 1993E.Cas a small cottage industry on rented home with a capital of
30,000.00 (thirty thousand birr only) with six employees in Hawassa town. Then, in
1997E.C.Thecompany went through the transformation process by scaling up the level of
its business undertaking from a small scale industry to a large scale modern industry level
through increasing the size of its initial capital investment to ETB 6 million and it has got
recognition from the government. At present, the company sets its modern machineries and
building in its own leased land which has an area of 21,175 m2 that situated at the
industrial zone in SNNPR, Hawassa town.
Moreover,the government authorities after looking the company’s performance and

continuous improvement and loyalty in paying tax, they provide us new leased land to
expand the factory. Additional ETAB hasacquired7000 m2of land to plant raw materials
processing machineries.
The primary operation of the company involves on the production and distribution of
various kinds of laundry and toilet soap products to the local market. It has now managed
to become one of the leading soap producers in the country.The company is meeting a
significant proportion of laundry and toilet soap demand mostly in SNNPRG and Oromia
regions of Ethiopia. It has got a total production capacity of 200 tons/dayof laundry and
toilet soap.Currently by utilizing50% of our machine capacity (100 ton/day) the total
annual sales of the company is forecasted to be over birr600 million.
The reason behind the success of the company is attributed to its management capability,
continuous research & development works and the competence of its manpower. Moreover,
the company follows low cost strategy, so as to maintain high market share and registered
good truck records in this regards.
The overall operation of the company is undertaken by the General Manager. Mr.
EskinderTesfaye, the owner of the company. His managerial capability and excellence of
leadership are practically proved by the success of the company that has been achieved
since 1993 E.C. During the past 16 years the company has experienced a rapid growth rate
in terms of market coverage, production capacity, sales volume and size of investment other
than its competitors’.
The company has made a great contribution towards saving the country’s foreign currency
spending as it is reducing the demand for imported laundry soap products from overseas
market. In addition its role in introducing, creating and development technology locally,
thereby enabling the creation and development of skilled man power is also considerable. It
has also created job opportunity for more than500 employees.

It was first established on 1993 E.C, with 6 employees and a capital of 30,000.00
COMPANY LOCATION AND FACILITIES:
- ETAB is located in capital city of Southern Nation, Nationalities and People Regional
State/SNNPRS/, Hawassa which is 275 Km away from Addis Ababa.
- The factory plant is located in Hawassa Industry zone, Sub city TABOR;
KebeleFara.The facility includes offices and work shop space, access to the local taxi
route and good parking
LICENCE:
- The factory is licensed by SNNPRS Trade Industry and Urban Development Bureau
in1994E.C. & it is being renewed every year.
CAPITAL:
- Currently the net capital of the factory exceeds ETB 75 million
ETAB’S CORE BUSINESS:
The factory offers laundry soap and Toilet soaps designed to effectively satisfy the rural and
urban dwellers of Ethiopia, but are inmissionto accommodate the low income urban
dwellers.
Our main line is the laundry soaps and toilet soaps in several grades and varieties. This is
designed to meet laundry and toilet soap needs of organizations and Individual homes

ETAB’s envisioned to be reputable by the society and the first choice of customers in laundry
soap and detergent industry in Ethiopia.
MISSION:
ETAB mission is to produce laundry soap and detergents in solid, power and liquid form to house
hold appliances by employing state of art of technology honest and motivated staff and selling the
products with fair profit.

ETAB is loyal in paying taxes and customs accordingly with the rules and regulations of the
Ethiopian government, and given with different awards, certificate and trophy by the city
administration and By the SNNPRS government of being loyal tax payers. ETAB products
have meet the standards of the Ethiopian Quality Assurance Agency and certified for that.

PRODUCTS:
The factory currently produces the following products;
 Laundry soaps: like Hammer soap, Yani Soap, Kezira Soap,KUKISSA SOAP. Dashen
Soap, Shewa Soap, Walta Soap. WALTA ORANGE. and CITY SOAP. COPITALE
SOAP. ENFINTYE SOAP. ZUNBARA SOAP. HAMMER LARGE SOAP. HAWASSA
SOAP. many other brands
 Toilet/Body soaps/ : ETAB Toilet 25gm Soap, ETAB Toilet 80gm
RAW MATERIALS:
Several types of raw materials are used in the course of production process; the most
important ones are Palmoils andChemicals. 80% of the raw materials are subject to import.
SUPPLIERS:
Indonesia and Malaysia are the main producer and supplier of Palm oil. Soap Fragrance and
different perfumes are from Egypt and Spain and other chemicals from domestic market.
Organizational Formation
 ETAB relay on the five year strategic plan which approved for 2014-2019. Departments
run the management in linewith a moveto achieve their respective target.
 ETAB is organized by 6 departments, 4 services and 13 divisions. Namely Market

development and sales, production,finance, Industrial Technology departments and
Planning and program control, quality, legal and audit services. For thingsget done at
the desired quality; at the right time and quantity and to satisfy our customers need at
large the factory is well organized.
 ETAB is establishing system by organizing a research and development divisions at all

departments to innovate and adopt technologies and increase efficiency to enhance the
department’s activities. This is believed that it will help to find their bestopportunities
and weaknesses to take the necessary corrective measures. Besides, It helps to identify
customers wants and needs, so that we increase customers satisfaction
 ETAB has an employee motivation scheme. An individual employee will be

remunerated/given with incentive every month based on respective performance
against target, in addition to his /her salary. This enable the factory to efficiently
utilize the Human resource and increase productivity.
 ETAB has given due attention to industrial innovation technology and organized the
industrial Technology department with skilled man power and equipment to support
the production department and increase efficiency.
Equipment& Plant Facilities

The company spent a total investment over ETB 65 million to establish a complete soap factory
plant that enables it to undertake the complete soap production process. The factory has three core
units of a given soap industry. 1. Raw material processing unit, 2. Saponfication unit 3. Finishing
unit. These equipment and machineries are produced in ITALY, China, America and India using the
state of the art technology meeting required technical standards. It has now managed to become one
of the leading soap producers in the country. It has got a total production capacity of 62,400 tone of
laundry and toilet soap per year. Beside now the company is under extensive expansion in
purchasing new manufacturing machines. The company is meeting the significant proportion of
laundry soap, toilet soaps & detergents demand in all some parts of Ethiopia.
The company’s strength /Asset
 The manager, the owner of the company has a proven practical knowledge of soap
making since the cottage industry. This is an asset to the organization than any other
factory in the country.
 ETAB besides the owner and the entrepreneur of the company it is led by the deputy
general managers who are supporting the realization of the vision of the factory.
Mr. HAYALEW TAKELE Deputy General Manager- Operation who has a long and rich
experience in leading the company to success.
 M.S.G.M TIGEST TESFAYE -ALL General Manager Corporate service, with potential
experience in different governmental and non- governmental organizations as a leader
including Commercial Bank of Ethiopia at different capacities.
 ETAB has qualified expertise in all departments who can contribute for realization of
the vision and meeting strategic targets.
 ETAB has a warehouse which can accommodate greater than 100,000 cartons at a
time that Shortage of products will not be expected.
 ETAB, better than any other companies in the country, has enough soap
manufacturing lines to make bulk production.
 We do have our own standard and fully organized laboratory. We do have also
qualified expertise to operate this.
 ETAB is now in a phase of expansion, after month later we going to launch new
machines.
 ETAB has a plan for launching new projects that will help to get some raw materials
from to be opened companies and even sale to competitors. This helps ETAB to
manufacture the soap products with low manufacturing cost and low selling price
than the competitors do.
 ETAB has more than 8 trucks to deliver by its own transportation
 ETAB is a long existing company that it has already built a good will of his customers
and stake holders throughout the country.
 Our toilet soap manufacturing machines are Original and imported from Italy with
high cost to enable us deliver quality product at lower manufacturing cost.
 We do have fully organized spare part store, which consists significant spare
part that can secure our machines to be operational every time.
 ETAB is selected by Ethiopian Kaizen institute as a pilot company in the region to
implement “KAIZEN philosophy” to increase productivity keeping quality and to
reduce cost.
 We are also loyal tax payers that we have certified regional government for the
consecutive five years and given with an award of green certificate in 2016/2017.
 ETAB has good relationship with different stakeholders.

FOCUS MARKET AND MARKET AREA:
The best Company–wide directional strategy of the factory is GROWTH CONCENTRATION

STRATEGY (i.e. Product and market development). Thus, the factory focuses on the current
industry and business for sustainable rapid company growth in Domestic market throughout
Ethiopia.
Besides our company through UN organizations made our products reach to East African
countries such as Somali, Somali land,South Sudan and Kenya. When we finish the
expansion completely in the near future, ETAB will start export to these countries directly to
get foreign currency and expand its market share.

A. Non-Government organizations
ETAB has a much enriched experience in producing and delivering quality products.
Even though ETAB’s major customers are the wholesalers all over the country, but we
do also work withdifferent institutions and organizations. To list some of which whom
we have major experience in doing so are;
 UNHCR(United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ), ETAB
has a long term experience with international NGOs in producing and
delivering brand quality products. UNHCR is a long lasting customer for
ETAB since 2010. Since then we manufacture and deliver laundry soaps in
high quality till their warehouse which is at Addis Ababa
 UNICEF(United Nations Children’s Fund):-ETAB has been delivering

quality products to United Nations Children’s Fund since 2015, with long
term agreement for minimum of three years. With this agreement we have
been delivering both laundry and toilet(bath) soaps as per the standard of the
organization.
 SNV(Netherland’s Development Organization):- Through this

project ETAB has produced and delivered quality laundry soap for 20 Schools
which are found in SNNPRS different zones. Through this activity we have got
recognition from beneficiaries which are found in the region.
 MSF Holland-Ethiopia:-This is an aid organization located its head office

at Addis Ababa. We have won the bid competition, to deliver laundry soap
and we have been delivering the product since the beginning of 2015. So far
we are delivering the product at their warehouse.
 IOM (International Organization for Migration)

- We have been delivering the desired quality multi-purposesoap product to
IOM since July 2013. ETABis still delivering the item to the organization.
B.Government Organizations
 Wondo Genet (Hot Spring Water)Resort Hotel: - This is the most
recreation place in our country. Since the emperor’s palace is found here,
many tourists come and visit the place. It has swimming pool, bathing
services, pensions and …etc. so it’s ETAB who deliver them bath soap without
any interruption. Therefore ETAB develops trust in producing and delivering
quality bath soaps for its consumers.
 Yirgalem SPA and lodge (SDA):- This is an organization operates under

the supervision of Sidama development Association. They have natural hot
water and bathing service…etc. many tourists came across the world to visit
this naturegifted place. ETAB delivers quality bath soaps as per the Ethiopian
and the organizations quality standard.
 SNNPRS Health Bureau: -ETAB works with this office through WASH
project to celebrate the annual hand washing day annually to give caution
against on preventingcontagious diseases before they happen. There ETAB
annually prepares soap to celebrate and make the people aware of how to
keep their hygiene,
C.For Industries
 ETAB has an enriched experience of producing and delivering quality laundry
and toilet soap products as per the Ethiopian standard agency to different
industries which are located around and far the factory. To mention the few;

Human Resource
Human resource is the most important resource that contributes to the company. Well qualified and
experienced personnel who can pursue their duties with utmost degree of competence, diligence and
responsibility are recruited and staffed. The management gives due attention to creating conducive
working environment to its employees. Those recruited staff are given with different motivational, skill
trainings and leadership trainings to develop them.
Currently the company has got more than 500 employees at permanent bases. The compositions of
the company’s permanent staffs are shown in the following table.
