4 – 5A IT – Cloud computing (nuvola informatica)

Cloud computing
Cloud is just another word to refer to the Internet.
We use cloud computing every day, for example, when you type a question into
Google, it’s not really your computer or phone which searches for the answer; the
query goes up into the cloud where it is answered by a vast network of Google
computers.
Cloud computing enables users to create documents and spreadsheets using programs
which are not running on their PC but instead in a computer up in the cloud. Cloud
computing offers advantages especially to those who invest large sums of money in
information technology.

Key benefits for business

Cost: The IT provider can cut costs by offering similar services to numerous
companies, reducing their investment in hardware, software and IT staff.
Efficiency: IT providers constantly update their software, adding new improved
features, so that users don’t have to worry about keeping up with new versions or
dealing with viruses.
Flexibility: Cloud services are built to respond to sudden increases in workload. This
means that companies are also free to expand more easily.
Mobility: Cloud services are designed to be easily accessible from any location.
Ecology: Many users sharing large systems means less waste of energy and lower
carbon emissions.
