Deployment of LTE systems is the main industry direction.

Mobile phones, computer and consumer electronic devices including notebooks, netbooks, UMPCs, tablets, gaming devices, cameras, PMPs and more will have embedded LTE connectivity. Huge growth in M2M apps enabled by LTE is forecast. The LTE standard supports hand-over and roaming to existing mobile networks and most devices ensure ubiquitous MBB coverage from day one. GSA regularly surveys mobile broadband market developments, and publishes a regularly updated report which is called Evolution to LTE detailing operator commitments to LTE, network deployments, launches, trials, regulatory and market developments worldwide. In the latest report (July 6, 2011) GSA confirmed that 218 operators are investing in LTE, with 166 LTE network commitments and 52 additional precommitment trials on-going. 24 commercial LTE

systems are launched and at least 91 networks are anticipated to be in commercial service by end 2012. LTE is the fastest developing mobile system technology ever The eco-system of LTE-capable user devices is rapidly developing to meet current and anticipated future needs of operators and their customers. Several LTE user devices are in commercial use or announced and many more are in the pipeline. This updated report includes LTE product launches and announcements up to the present day by 45 manufacturers, and confirms how a robust LTE ecosystem is rapidly establishing.

161 LTE user devices are confirmed and listed in this

report. This figure is 64% higher than in GSAs Status of the LTE Ecosystem report published in March 2011.
