Lesson Plan

Grade/Subject: High School Chemistry

Lesson Plan Topic:  Gas Laws
Learning Objectives:  Describe the relationship between pressure & temperature using
evidence from collected data. Represent how temperature and pressure are related
graphically.
Lesson Summary:
1. The lesson begins with me showing them a few gas law videos. The videos
show reactions highlighting Boyles Law, Charles Law, Gay-Lussac’s Law.
2. Next we will review algebraic functions that will be used by going through pre
lesson practice.
3. The students then join a nearpod lesson that is teacher guided. I go over some
slides that cover each gas law.
4. The students then complete a Gas Laws pHet inquiry based lab by using the
simulation and complete the pHet worksheet with data table.
5. Students then use the evidence from their data tables and create graphs of all
three gas laws using geogebra
6. Students then answer analysis questions from their graph.
7. For closing, students focus back on the original videos shown. A class
discussion is held on what variables are being used in each experiment and
students answer video questions relating to the main idea of gas law
relationships.

Progress Monitoring: Students will be given check for understanding questions throughout the
PowerPoint presentation. Students will also answer questions on their lab sheet that follows their
online simulation. Students will then visually represent their data by creating graphs for each gas law.
In closing students will verbally discuss their understanding. At the end of the unit data will be collected
on student understanding on gas laws by a unit portfolio where students will answer questions and
calculate gas law word problems.
