de®bakermat praklik voor verloskunde ct Glucose tolerance test (GTT) is a test that looks for the presence of sugar in your blood, also called gestational diabetes. The GTT is best done between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy. During the GTT itis important that you are ‘nil by mouth’/ ‘sober’. ‘This means you should not eat, smoke or drink, except water from 22:00 hours the night before the test. For the GTT test blood needs to be taken twice, ‘Once soon after you arrive. After this you will receive a very sweet drink. After this drink you will need to wait for two hours. So bring a book, magazine or something similar along. During this time you need to be inactive. We advise you not to bring any children with you to this appointment. After the two hours a second blood sample is taken to see how your body responds to sugar. Please make sure you arrive at least two hours before the laboratory closes. You will be given the result of the GTT test during your next appointment with the midwife. If the result is abnormal you will be contacted by phone.
