The GTT is best done between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy. During the GTT itis important that you are ‘nil by mouth’/ ‘sober’. ‘This means you should not eat, smoke or drink, except water from 22:00 hours the night before the test. For the GTT test blood needs to be taken twice, ‘Once soon after you arrive. After this you will receive a very sweet drink. After this drink you will need to wait for two hours.
