Course Objectives:

Unit I:
Basics in Web Design: Brief History of Internet- What is World Wide Web- Why create a web site-
Web Standards- Audience requirement.
Web Design Principles: Basic principles involved in developing a web site - Planning process - Five
Golden rules of web designing - Designing navigation bar - Page design - Home Page Layout - Design
Concept.

Unit II:
Introduction to HTML: What is HTML-HTML Documents - Basic structure of an HTML document
- Creating an HTML document- Mark up Tags – Heading – Paragraphs - Line Breaks - HTML Tags.
Elements of HTML: Introduction to elements of HTML- Working with Text- Working with Lists,
Tables and Frames- Working with Hyperlinks, Images - Working with Forms and controls.
Introduction to Cascading Style Sheets: Concept of CSS- Creating Style Sheet- CSS Properties- CSS
Styling (Background, Text Format, Controlling Fonts). Project: Design student registration form and
login form using HTML and CSS

Unit III:
Introduction to Scripting language: Define Scripting language - Different Scripting Languages.
Introduction to JavaScript – Fundamentals of JavaScript Code- JavaScript methods (such as alerts)
Variables - The importance of quotes - Numbers vs. strings -Concatenation. Reusing Code with
Functions: Defining functions - Calling functions - Defining parameters & passing arguments-
Introduction to DHTML Project: Design student registration form and login form using HTML with
validation using JavaScript.

PHP Introduction: Variables, Constants, Datatypes- Operators and Control StructuresLooping
Statements-Arrays and Foreach Loop-PHP Functions-HTML Forms with PHP-File Handling –
Applications of PHP.
Project: Design web site using PHP.

Unit V:
XML Introduction and Overview: XML Syntax -XML Namespaces and Infoset - Document Type
Definitions (DTDs)-XML Schemas-Data Modeling - XPATH, XSL, XSLT, XLink, and XPointer -
Document Object Model (DOM)- Simple Application Programme Interface (API) for XML (SAX) .
Project: Create holydays list in a calendar using XML database.
