Deployments to Saudi get a boost with PCC exemption

EPLOYMENT of In-
dian workers in Saudi
Arabia will now be
faster as Saudi Arabia has an-
nounced that it will exempt In-
dian nationals from submitting
a Police Clearance Certificate
(PCC) to obtain a visa in a bid
to strengthen relations be-
tween the two countries.
Indians no longer need to
produce a Police Clearance
Certificate to apply for a Saudi
employment visa.
The rule, which came in
force from August 22, 2022,
has drastically reduced the
time for employment visa
process of thousands of work-
ers seeking job opportunities
in obtaining PCC in the top
sending regions of India due
to the sudden surge in de-
mand.
Indefinite delay in sourcing
and mobilisation of Indian
workers further caused dam-
ages and severe constraints
to foreign employers and their
projects.
“The PCC will no longer
require Indian citizens to ob-
tain a visa for travelling to
Saudi Arabia. This decision
has been taken as a part of
the efforts of the two countries
to strengthen their relations
further. The Embassy appre-
ciates the contribution of over
two million Indian citizens liv-
ing peacefully in the King-
dom,” the Saudi Embassy in

UWAIT’s Public Authority
for Manpower (PAM) has
started working on listing
the top professions in which ex-
patriate workers are recruited af-
ter undergoing skill tests in the
sourcing countries as well as in
Kuwait.
As part of the Smart Recruit-
ment of Skilled Labour project,
the Public Authority for Man-
power has obtained approvals
to include in the development
plan and to implement it in co-
operation with other relevant
government agencies.
Theoretical tests, or skill
tests, for professions for which
expatriate workers are recruited
will take place in the labour ex-
porting countries in co-operation
with Kuwait embassies in the
respective countries.
Upon arrival in Kuwait the
worker will have to appear for
the practical test before he is
eligible for a work permit.
The authorities have been
planning to implement a smart

nership with Kuwait embassies
abroad.
“This step aims to implement
a recruitment mechanism based
on testing new expatriate work-
ers. The tests will be for the tar-
getted professions and will be
held in two parts – practical and
theoretical. The practical section

high demand in the labour mar-

well as the modernisation of pro-
fessions and professional and

to the needs of the labour market,

tainment centres, adventure

has been reduced from
three years to two.
The new validity period went
into effect from October 1, 2022,
when the new UAE visa reforms
were rolled out.
While visas issued in the
mainland have a validity of two
years, those in the free zones
used to have three. The UAE
government has now standard-
ised the validity of the work visas.
“As per new updates, the
validity has been reduced from
three to two years,” said an offi-
cial of the Federal Authority for
Identity, Citizenship, Customs
and Ports Security (ICP).
