PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

ISTANBULKART : 
In Istanbul, students are entitled to use all public
transport (buses, trams, metro and ferries) at a
reduced price with Istanbul Card.

The cards are issued by the IETT (Public

Transport Company) and only online
applications are accepted. Personal on-site
applications are not accepted.

HOW TO OBTAIN: 2 Ways to Obtain İstanbul Card

1- Online Application

Payment to Vakıfbank

Students should pay required fee (10TL) before filling out online application form to the
nearest branch of T.C Vakıflar Bankası.

You will have a PIN number on the receipt. You will use it while completing your application
by filling out the online application form.

Help for Online Application Form

Sometimes it is not possible to write the letters in the passport number tab. In that case, you
need to write "0" (zero) instead of the letters. For example: passport number is: H67Y44L3280
You need to write: 06704403280

As the delivery location it’s wise to choose the closest location to you.
(Hasanpaşa is close to Kadıköy.
Karaköy office is really easy to find in Karaköy, as it is close to the ferries.)
Be sure that you've written your contact details clearly. To receive your card, Please bring your
documents to the application centers you have chosen during your application.
 
After receiving a notification e-mail, you need to go to the delivery location you have chosen
before with the following documents:

Official ID
Proof of Student Document from institution
Receipt (2 copies)
Please keep your receipt until your card delivered

2- Individual Application
Students may visit any IETT Application Centers to apply for Student Card. You need to take
your passport, a photo, Student Certificate and 10 TL with you. Your IstanbulCard will be
ready in 5 minutes. The main Application Centers are in Karaköy, Kadıköy, Beşiktaş, in
Pendik.

CARD FEES:
If you lose your valid Student Card, you may obtain a replacement. A fee of 10 TL is charged
for the first replacement, 20 TL for second and third replacement and 40 TL for fourth
replacement. You must have valid identification when applying for a lost card.

Visa Fee is 5 TL, if Student Card is improperly used, monthly loading fee has to be paid.

FARES
Per-Ride :1.25 TL
Transfer :0.45 TL
Monthly Loading Fee: 77 TL (Max. 200 Ride)

HOW TO USE
To use the travel card, it is sufficient to hold the card within 0-8 cm to a card readers located in
railway stations, sea transportation docks or on buses.

You are not charged multiple times for holding card close to a card reader for a long amount of
time. How much you get charged and your remaining balance information is placed on the card
reader.

Loading the card;

Card can be load at both İETT loading points and authorized private loading points.

Expiration
Electronic cards are good to use as much as two years.
Lost/Stolen Cards
Card can be easily cancelled with calling İETT calling centres. During same education year
applicant do not need to re-provide the same documents.
Renewing a damaged card
Renewal fee of 10 TL is collected if damage caused by user misuse otherwise card is renewed
with free of charge.
If card used by another person, owner gets fined equivalent to one month of loading fee.

Balance transfer
Transferring balance from old card to new one can be done either Karaköy or Hasanpaşa
Centres. Card and Akbil balance transfers can be done at Belbim, İncirli - Bakırköy Metro
station. (Belbim : 468 00 00)
