Group Written Report

The topic which was investigated in this SBA was titled 'Gender Inequality'. Researching
this topic gave us the opportunity to increase our knowledge and skills by learning
something new. Each member of the group was given a specific subtopic to assist us all
in completing the project. Out of nine pieces, three pieces, which we found the best out of
them all were selected.

The first piece selected was a Poem written by Terry Miller, which was taken from
Anthony Munilal's SBA. It discusses the inequality and gender gap between men and
women and its examples. The type of writing it uses is emotive writing, for example the
line, “Would it make any difference” and “I love them even when they hate me”.

The second piece selected was an article, which was written by Therese Turner-Jones,
and was selected from Aadan Ramdeen's SBA. The article presented a story which speaks
about the challenges that young women face in the workplace. To give examples of it,
expository writing as well as narrative writing was used, for example the line, “Data from
the University of the West Indies for at least the past 3 years, puts the number of female
students at more than 65% but Caribbean women make 60 to 70 cents for every dollar
made by men.”

The final piece which was chosen was a story, retrieved from Vikash Boodram’s SBA,
which entails information discussing that men are also discriminated in the workplace
and household. It contains narrative writing and some hyperbolises. An example of the
use of this type of writing is the line, “I watched aghast as my friend stared straight ahead
stoically, almost as though he prepared himself for exactly this outburst.”

All in all, the three pieces of writing were similar, as they all referred to 'Gender
Inequality', which was our subtopic. The SBA was successfully completed, with great
outcomes, and helped us with our skills in thinking and also finding information using
various methods. Most of the information was retrieved from the internet, and it was a
great experience working together as a group to complete our selected topic. We
communicated with each other through social media, and it helped us share our
information easily.
