TRAIN YOUR BRAIN

Activity 1: Read the passage and unlock the meanings of the words, idioms, expressions in
bold letters.

What I am, who I am

In some countries, your appearance can define who you are and what you will become.
For instance, people who can afford undergoing cosmetic surgery are believed to be rich
or a handsome. Moreover, a beautiful person is most likely to be famous among her/ his
peers. This kind of norm starts since we are babies wherein a baby who looks healthy
and cute can be an apple of anyone’s eye than a baby who has a face only a mother
would love. This becomes apparent as we experience prejudice due to how we look.
Whether we like it or not, the thirst for a perfect face and body will always daunt many
people, but we shouldn’t forget that confidence should not be generated by our
appearance alone.
