Computerized library systems have become increasingly popular in recent years, with
many libraries adopting them in place of traditional, manual systems (Benavidez et
al., 2017). There are many advantages to using a computerized library system,
including increased efficiency and the ability to access a wider range of
information.
A computerized library management system can offer many benefits compared to
traditional, manual systems (Adebesin, 2017). For example, it can increase
efficiency and productivity by automating tasks and providing easy access to
library information.
In a study conducted at Muntindilaw National High School in the Philippines, it was
found that implementing a computerized library system significantly improved the
efficiency of the library (Benavidez et al., 2017). The study found that the
library was able to process twice as many transactions in the same amount of time
after implementing the new system. This allowed the library to serve more patrons
and increased the overall satisfaction of library users.

In addition to improving efficiency, computerized library systems also provide

access to a wider range of information (Mayo, 2016). With a traditional, manual
system, libraries are limited to the physical books and other materials that they
have on hand. With a computerized system, libraries can easily access information
from other libraries and databases, providing patrons with a broader range of
materials to choose from.

Despite the many advantages of computerized library systems, there are also some
challenges and drawbacks to consider (Mayo, 2016). One major challenge is the cost
of implementing and maintaining a computerized system. This can be a significant
expense for many libraries, particularly those with limited budgets. Additionally,
some patrons may not be comfortable using a computerized system, particularly older
patrons who are not familiar with technology.

The use of computerized library systems has many benefits, including increased
efficiency and access to a wider range of information (Benavidez et al., 2017).
However, libraries must also consider the challenges and costs associated with
implementing and maintaining these systems (Mayo, 2016). By carefully weighing the
pros and cons, libraries can make an informed decision about whether a computerized
system is right for them.
In conclusion, the implementation of computerized library systems, such as the
MNHSLMS and PHOLS, has proven to be beneficial in improving the efficiency and
effectiveness of library operations (Benavidez et al., 2017; Mayo, 2016). These
systems save time, improve productivity, and provide a user-friendly interface for
accessing and searching for library materials (Benavidez et al., 2017; Mayo, 2016).
Additionally, they offer a number of other advantages, such as the ability to
automate tasks, track library materials, and provide access to a wider range of
resources (Benavidez et al., 2017; Mayo, 2016). It is clear that computerized
library systems are a valuable asset for schools and universities looking to
improve their library operations.

Furthermore, the use of Java and a MySQL database in the design and implementation
of the library management system in this study is also noteworthy (Adebesin, 2017).
Java is a popular programming language that is widely used for creating
applications and is known for its reliability and security (Oracle, 2021). The use
of a MySQL database allows for efficient storage and retrieval of library data,
making it an important component of the system (MySQL, 2021). The successful
implementation of this system using these technologies suggests that they could be
useful in the development of similar systems for other libraries.

Additionally, the study highlights the importance of user-friendly interfaces in

computerized library management systems (Adebesin, 2017). The system developed in
the study was designed to provide a simple and intuitive interface for both
librarians and users, making it easy to use and navigate (Adebesin, 2017). This is
crucial for ensuring that the system is widely adopted and used effectively, as
patrons are more likely to use a system that is easy to understand and use.

As a researcher, the significance of this research on the implementation of

computerized library systems is that it provides valuable information on the
benefits and advantages of these systems. This information can be used to inform
our own research and help me understand the potential benefits of implementing a
computerized library system for our school. The implementation of computerized
library systems has been shown to improve efficiency, productivity, and access to
library resources, making them a valuable asset for educational institutions. By
understanding the benefits of these systems, We can make informed decisions about
how to improve library operations and provide the best possible services to users.
This research is relevant to our own work as a student researcher as it provides
valuable insights into the benefits of implementing computerized library systems.
