TAMIL NADU:

Climate change is referred to as large variations in climatic average,

which exist for quite a long time or much longer periods. In spite of the fact that climate change
happened on a worldwide scale, its impacts often vary across regions.Several studies have been
conducted in recent years to detect possible climate trends and change worldwide [4,13]. Most
of these studies have focused on changes in temperature (maximum, minimum or mean) and
precipitation only as changes in their pattern can affect agricultural production, water
availability, ecosystems, plants, and animals. Evidences on global warming caused temperature
and a rainfall change for Indian sub-continent has been reported. Many studies were conducted
to study the variation of the temperature in Tamil Nadu .One such study is given The aim of
this study was to explore the changes in the annual and seasonal rainfall and temperature
using the long term time series data of Tamil Nadu. Trend analysis made through the non
parametric Mann-Kendall test and Sen’s slope estimator for historic climatic period (1981-
2017) and future time scales such as near century (2010-2039), mid of century (2040-2069)
and end of century (2071-2099). Trend analysis of observed maximum and minimum
temperature indicated an increasing trend at the annual and seasonal scale while rainfall
showed no clear cut trend over Tamil Nadu. Annual and seasonal maximum and minimum
temperatures are predicted to have more variability and significant warming trend in the
future. In future, the projected annual and seasonal rainfall tread indicated a mixed
pattern over Tamil Nadu.
