LOOK OVER MY SHOULDER PROGRAM

WORKSHEET FOR INTERVIEWER LED CASE

CAR WASH – CANDIDATE A
Worksheet for Interviewer Led Case – Car Wash – Candidate A
While this program includes a lot of “how to” information regarding how to do well in case
interviews, it is really intended as a training program to help you build good case interview
habits. The kind of habits that result in getting consulting offers.

My recommendation for the best way to develop these habits is to be actively engaged in the
program and a good way to do this is by looking for the errors and good habits each candidate is
demonstrating as they are demonstrating it.

To do this I have setup within the audio of each case an audio queue that will play before I make
a comment about the candidate’s performance when you hear this audio signal, hit the pause
button and try to figure out what the candidate did in the last 30 seconds that was either a
mistake, or an example of a good habit or practice the specific skill I reference in the audio.
You can use this worksheet to do just that and help you actively engage in the Look Over My
Shoulder program.

Interviewer Led Case – Car Wash: Key Points

This case is an interviewer led case. The business is a carwash business; they run 100 different
locations. These carwash facilities are located near residential areas. It is partially a self-service
business, partially an automated business, and partially a labor-oriented service business.

Interviewer Led Case – Car Wash – Practice Skill Hypothesis

The whole purpose of having a problem-solving structure or an issue tree or framework is to test
the hypothesis. Practice your hypothesis skills.

1. What is the hypothesis?

2. What will test the hypothesis?

3. Justify why you need a particular piece of information to test that hypothesis?

Step 1: For the last 30 seconds of audio answer these questions:

1. Did the candidate make a mistake?

2. If she did, what was the specific mistake?

3. If it was a mistake, how would I have done it differently?

4. Did the candidate demonstrate a good habit?

5. If it was a good habit, why was it a good habit?

Step 2: Now listen to my commentary did the candidate make a mistake that you did not
mention above? (if you answer yes then move on to Step 3 if not then great job and move on
with the Case Audio.)

Step 3: Rewind the recording and see if you can now HEAR the mistake.

Step 4: Go to the transcript and re-read the section where the mistake was made and SEE the
mistake and how it was made.

Step 5: Write down here what the candidate should have said instead based on your new-
found understanding of the situation.

Step 6: Finally, and this step is VERY important say out loud what you just wrote in Step 5.
You might ask why saying it out loud is important this is because as opposed to just writing it
down or replaying silently in your head how you would have done the case your skill swill get
much better, much faster by saying it out loud.

Interviewer Led Case – Car Wash – Practice Skill – Bringing the Case Back
to Your Original Objective

What you want to always be doing in a case, is: constantly, constantly go back to the original
question – the original objective.

Practice this skill now by writing down what is your original question or objective?

Ask yourself given what you’ve just discovered, how does this impact the client’s overall
objective?

Interviewer Led Case – Car Wash – Practice Skill – Case Interview Math

I’m going to transition the case and give the candidate a math or computation intensive problem.
This type of problem is very common in the interviewer-led format, so it’s something you should
be prepared for

Use this practice section here to follow along with the math.
