“Who Am I as a Writer?

My history as a writer started off in a penmanship course, which I took in either the third

or fourth grade. In that course, I had to take long passages from the back of a booklet and

summarize them. Although the course did not mainly focus on the creativeness or the flow of the

content, it served as the first time that I had to really analyze chunks of information and stratify it

in terms of importance. Passed that period in my life, I transitioned to writing reports and

reviews, test essays, descriptions, research papers, and many other kinds of analytical writing.

During my history as a writer, I have only written for my own pleasure a couple of times, to not

much success. Early on, it was a struggle for me when I would work on a paper to come up with

an effective introduction and use terms which conveyed my intended meaning. However, once I

would finally get started, things would normally fall into place. I believe that I turned out to be a

decent writer; however, I still struggle with my confidence in writing. My hope out of this course

is that I can achieve a place within myself where I can feel uninhibited whenever I express my

thoughts.
