PORTFOLIO TASK #13 (Reflection Paper)- Setting One's Goal

Name: Barranco, Bryle P. Section: Polaris 1A Date: 12/17/22

Write your reflection of not less than 100 words on the quotation: "Don't just
dream, make it happen.” Make sure to include what you have learned about self-
efficacy and how it is developed.

We all have our individual dreams. What distinguishes us is the strength of our beliefs or
convictions. As for me, I dream to become a ship captain, and I am confident in my self-efficacy
that I will be able to achieve this dream of mine, fulfilling the quote, "Don’t just dream, make it
happen." Self-efficacy is developed through Bandura’s four major sources of self-efficacy: actual
performance, observational learning, verbal persuasion, and psychological cues.

Actual Performance. A great leader or ship captain must be capable of making decisions.
During senior high school, I discovered I am good at making decisions; as a result, our research
paper got approved. This experience is one of the reasons that led me to embark on this
journey to become a ship captain.

Observational Learning. Growing up, I saw my uncles, who are seafarers, bring a
prosperous life to their families. This inspired me to consider becoming a seafarer and providing
the same for my family.

Verbal Persuasion. My family taught me to follow my dreams. When they found out I
wanted to become a seafarer, they said, "I have what it takes to become one."

Psychological Cues. I once traveled on a cruise when I was twelve years old, It was one
of the experiences I enjoyed. It has been seven years since I rode a cruise or vessel, and I
think that someday working on one or steering one as a ship captain would satisfy my
nostalgia.

Clearly, it is evident that Bandura’s four major sources of self efficacy were the factors
that influenced the development of my self-efficacy. However, I must not rely on my self-
efficacy alone to reach my dream. In order for my dream to "make it happen" I must make an
effort to turn it into an accomplishment.
