What can possibly go wrong during the germinal, embryonic, and fetal periods of prenatal

development? Discuss comprehensively.

During the Germinal period, the greatest risk of pregnancy at this stage is a blighted ovum which causes
about half of the miscarriages between two and six weeks (often before the woman knows she is
pregnant). During the Embryonic period, infections and drugs can cause the greatest damage when
exposure occurs two to 10 weeks after conception. Diabetes and obesity can increase the child's risk of
birth defects. Other complications during this period to be aware of include bleeding, hyperemesis
gravidarum, excessive vomiting, spontaneous abortions/miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and molar
pregnancies. During the Fetal period, the possible complications could be genetic issues, miscarriage,
incompetent cervix, or placental abruptions. The other complications that must be aware of during this
period are Gestational diabetes, Preeclampsia, Preterm labor, Preterm rupture of the membranes,
placenta previa, Intrauterine growth restriction, Post-term pregnancy, and malpresentation
