PREFACE ‘FOR OF-27 I23 FIELD SERVICE HANDBOOK

This document is intended to describe the procedures that will lead to the field
maintenance of the CCllT G2 and G3 facsimile1 transceivers OKIFAX OF-20 series
comprising of OKIFAX OF-23 and OF-27 which are essentially the same in terms of
technical performance and specifications except for the functional features due to
a large capacity memory provided in OF-27.

The descriptions that concern only OF-27 are marked with (only OF-27).
CHAPTER 1:

GENERAL INFORMATION
CHAPTER 1. GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1 Introduction

The OKIFAX OF-27/23 is a flat-bet scanning type desk-top Group 3 and Group 2 facsimile
transceiver fully conforming to the CCITT (international Telegraph and Telephone
Consultative Committee) Recommendations T3,T4 and T30.

Employing thethermal printingtechnique, the OKIFAX OF-27/23 isan extremery fast

document sending machine that can be connected to general switched telephone networks and
to dedicated lines, aswell.

This OKIFAX OF-27/23’ FIELD SERVICE HANDBOOK manual is ‘written forthe purpose that a
service engineer shall become able to perform field service of OF-27/23 aswll as maintenance
service at the workshop. The service engineer may be able to isolated repair a trouble at
component level (P.C. Board, Unit, etc.).

The manual consists of seven chapters from CHAPTER 1 to CHAPTER 7. The summary of each
chapter is given below.

- CHAPTER 2: SPECIFICATION AND PERFORMANCE

This chapter contents specification of OF-27/23 which describes the fundamental

performance, maintenance features and reliability etc. Since this chapter contains the
minimum information that a service engineer must know about OF-27123, it must be read at
least once in the beginning.

- CHAPTER 3: INSTALLATION

It describes the important installation matters such as site selection, unpacking of the
machine, initial settings, machine connections and tests etc. Seciton 3.1 contains a flow
diagram that helps to perform an efficient installation work.

- CHAPTER 4: MAINTENANCE

Section 4.1 contains~maintenance items, section 4.2 describes maintenance by Keypad

operating for self-diagnostics functions that are used in CHAPTER 3. CHAPTER 5 and
CHAPTER 6.

- CHAPTER 5: ADJUSTMENTS

This chapter describes in details the procedures to perform various adjustments.

This chapter is very useful for replacing some P.C. Boards based on chapter 6:
TROUBLESHOOTING and a trouble in OF-27/23 due to misalignment of any of the adjustments.

CHAPTER 6: TROUBLESHOOTING

Section 6.1 contains mechanical troubleshooting flow chart diagrams.

Section 6.2 contains OF-27/23 signal flow charts which are very useful for some component
parts has been replaced.

CHAPTER 7: MECHANICAL DISASSEMBLY & ASSEMBLY

This chapter contains illustrations that describes the disassembly and assembly procedures of
OF-27R3 in a very easy-to-understand manner. OF-27/23 shall be disassembled/assembled by
referring~to the relevant drawing of this chapter.

scales by DITHER method and when this gray-scale
feature is implemented, the resolution of 7.7

There are two DITHER matrix algorithms; one is for

speeby transmission that is controlled by setting the
resolution key to “STD”, and the other is good copy
qualitybysettingto “FINE”.

,2. This function allows the operator to make

reservation for message transmission to one remote
machine at a specified time, orto allowthe operator
to make reservation for automatic~collection of
messages form one (or more) remote machinesat a
specified time.

The former is referred to as ‘Delay Transmission,’

and the latter, as *Delay Polling.’

This feature allows the operator to arrange the

machine so that the documents on the hopper can be
automatically picked up by a remote machine at any
time when the machine gains access to the local
machine to pick up the messages. A “password’
check is usually conducted for protection purposes.
Since the documents are exhausted into the stacker
after pick up, only one remote machine ii allowed to
pick up the documents.

:4. The operator can direct the machine to ring the

remote machine bgfore beginning a document

1s. The operator can dial select the remote machine by

the use of the ten-key pad or any of 12 One-Touch
keys(24 positions switch-selectable) provided on the
operation panel for document transmission, instead
of using the dialing facility of the local telephone set.
Thisfeature isavailable in the following methods:

:a) Full-numberdialing
The operator can select a remote machine by
tapping all digits of the remote machine number
on the ten-key pad.

(b) Abbreviated-Codedialing

of frequently-called machine numbers.
The machine can accept a maximum of 99
different codes in total forthis purpose.
