(1) QUAGMIRE- 1. A SOFT WET LAND 2. A COMPLICATED SITUATION.

Usage: The weather soon deteriorated again, with the roads once more turning into impassable, muddy
quagmires.

(2) TANTAMOUNT- 1. HAVING THE SAME EFFECT OR VALUE AS SOMETHING. (USUALLY IN BAD
SENSE)

Usage: Her refusal to answer tantamount to her admission of guilt.

(3) PANDEMONIUM- 1. a situation in which there is a lot of noise and confusion because people are
excited, angry, or frightened.

Usage: Pandemonium reigned in the hall as the unbelievable election results were read out.

(4) SURREPTITIOUS- Done secretly without anyone knowing or seeing.

Usage: I had a surreptitious look at what she was writing.

(5) SENTINEL- A person employed to guard something.

Usage: Fighter Pilots of the Airforce are the sentinels of the sky.
