Retro Reflectivity
Commonly Used Materials
1. Thermoplastic Markings
2. Solvent- based and Waterborne Road Marking Paints
3. Cold Applied Plastics
4. Performed Adhesive Tapes
Visibility Related to speed:-
 Marking must be clearly visible in day and night Retro Reflectivity depends on:-
 An important aid for driver to follow the unlit roads at night • Size and Quality of beads
 Need to detect guidance markings at a distance equivalent to a minimum • Fixing method-Glass-Beads are partially embedded on surface and also spread
of two seconds of travel time externally during application time
• Quality of beads- clear & sharp beads, no rubbed surface
• Size of beads-large bead (Minimum 1mm thickness) more effective
• Wet condition
• Wear durability
• Quality & Quantity of TITANIUM DIOXIDE-white Pigment-render Brightness to the
marking
