I chose Albana Reategui's article, entitled "Dissociative Identity Disorder: A Literature Review".

This research was conducted because the media usually convey inaccurate Dissociative Identity
Disorder (DID) and add wrong it up concept to the public about the existence and diagnosis of it.

The Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a mental disorder characterized by the maintenance

of at least two distinct (multiple personality disorder) and relatively enduring personality states
which may take control of the individual live. The person may experience amnesia when an alter
takes control over the person’s behavior. The individual may have recurrent gaps in their
memory about everyday situations, about personal information or traumatic events. In some
cases, the person with The Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) may benefit from a particular
alter. However, more often The Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) creates a chaotic life and
problems in personal and work relationships.

In this review I looked at focusing on investigating four topics, to better understand this disorder.
As follows:

1. Prevalence and Existence

According to the American Psychiatric Association, The Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
is a true disorder has been circulating for decades. Like in australia in the US, the incidence
rate was higher in males than females and that the Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) may
be more prevalent in adolescents than in adults. One Whenever of the challenges in screening
dissociative disorders among adolescents is suffer from an “identity crisis”.
2. How to develop
In this section there are some controversies about the reasons why The Dissociative Identity
Disorder (DID) developed which has different opinions. What got me interested was in one of
them is according to the Trauma Model that the Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is
caused by a traumatic experience (abuse) that usually occurs in childhood.
3. Existing Treatments
The current standard of care for the Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) treatment is
described in the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation Treatment
Guidelines for Dissociative Identity Disorder in Adults. That is a tri-phasic trauma-focused
psychotherapy which the experts recommend the Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).
4. Directions for Future Research
Due to the lack of research on the Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). This has resulted in a
lack of information and the media has given the wrong idea of what the Dissociative Identity
Disorder (DID) actually is. So, as much research as possible about the Dissociative Identity
Disorder (DID) must be carried out, so that you are not easily deceived by something that is
not reality
