MMIPR, MMDU
Introduction
• Isokinetic means movement in constant
speed.
• Isokinetic exercise are the exercise where
movement are in constant velocity
irrespective to resistance.
• In Isokinetic Dynamometer you can pre fix
Velocity of muscle shortening and
lengthening and the and angular limb velocity.
Set up
Modes of Operation
• 1. passive mode
• No voluntary force is required.
• Useful in motor relearning.
• 2. Isometric Mode
• Can produce isometric contraction in different
available range of motion.
• 3. Isokinetic Mode
• Movement will occur in constant velocity
• 4. Isotonic mode
• Resistant will remain constant and velocity is
controlled by the patient.
Function of Isokinetic Dynamometer
• Muscle strength evaluation
• Isokinetic testing
• Training
Gravity correction
• Must be done prior to testing or training.
Isokinetic data analysis
• Peak torque
• Angular position
• Acceleration
• Deceleration
• Power
• Agonist and antagonist strength ratio
• Curve analysis
Advantages
• Isokinetic resistance
• Velocity spectrum training
• Computer feedback
• Minimal soreness as compare to eccentric
exercise
Disadvantages
• Complete Setup is required
• Expensive and time consuming
• Only isolated movement can perform
