LAW OF TRIANGLE OF FORCES & LAMIr'S
THEOREM Subject
To verify the law of
Triangle of forces and Lami's theorem. Title
Law of Triangle of forces states that "If three
in equilibrium, they can be coplanar forces acting at a point are Learning content
represented in magnitude and direction by the sides of
triangle drawn in such a manner that the sides of triangle are parallel to the forces
taken in order". It can be interpreted that, if two forces
acting simultaneously on
a particle be represented in magnitude and direction by the two sides ofa
triangle,
taken in order, then their resultant may be represented in magnitude and direction
by the third side of the triangle taken in opposite order.
Lami's theorem states that "lf three forces acting on a body are in the state of
equilibrium then the magnitude of each force is proportional to the sine of angle
between the other two forces". Thus, Lami's theorem is applied when the forces
are in equilibrium.
