Gen Asim Munir :Pakistan's 17th COAS

General Sayed Asim Munir on 29 November 2022 took charge as the 17th Army chief of
Pakistan. The change of command ceremony took place after a gap of six years, as
General Qamar Javed Bajwa, now retired, was given a three-year extension in 2019.
Gen Asim is the first army chief who headed both the Military Intelligence (MI) and the
Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). General Ahsanul Haq was the other four-star who led
both secret agencies but he was the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.
General Asim joined the army in 1986 through Officer Training School (OTS) Mangla
and was awarded sword of honor. He was the number 1 in order of seniority when the
summary was sent to the PM Office for the appointment of army chief.
He also has done M. Phil in Public Policy and Strategic Security Management from the
National Defence University. The quartermaster general was also posted as a directing
staff at the Command and Staff College, Quetta, brigade major of a deployed infantry
brigade in Kel, general staff officer, grade-2, CGS secretariat and chief of staff of Mangla
corps.
The coalition government led by Prime Minister Shebhaz Sharif, who appointed Gen
Asim as army chief, hoped that the army, under his command, will no longer play a role
in politics.

An Overhaul

Wind energy has seen rapid adoption in

Pakistan from the beginning of the last
decade, primarily due to the increasing
renewable energy mix mandate by the
government and improvements in wind
energy technology, leading to higher
efficiencies and lowered costs.
What is Wind Energy?
· Wind energy is the kinetic energy
associated with the movement of
atmospheric air.
· Wind turbines transform the energy
in the wind into mechanical power,
further converting it to electric power
to generate electricity.
Pakistan's Potential for wind energy:
Pakistan has huge solar resource potential:
According to a recent World Bank study,
utilizing just 0.071 percent of the country's
area for solar PV would meet Pakistan's
current electricity demand! Of course
Pakistanis already know this due to the long,
hot summers, which until recently were
accompanied by regular power cuts due to
insufficient supply. Pakistan also has some
