Show us that he can read two languages Greek and Latin "Astrophil" mean the star lover 
some critics believe that he choice this part to refer to his self. It's also a reflection for his 
society. Because this sonnet express his own life critics agree that this could be an 
autobiography for his life. 
 
"Stella" is a referring for his love that he didn’t regarded her as a beloved until she got married 
to another man. 
 
   The title show us an impossible love that she's a star that unreachable... what make us 
know that the sonnet subject is about impossible love. 
 
Explanation of the poem: 
 
Come Sleep! O Sleep, the certain knot of peace,
The baiting-place of wit, the balm of woe,
The poor man's wealth, the prisoner's release,
Th' indifferent judge between the high and low.

he is addressing the sleep as if it was a human " personification" saying to him please come 
and make me feel peace he continue giving the sleep a compliment that you are a gold and 
you’re the one who control the peace of the world you are the master of mind and you are the 
wealth for poor man.. In this last meaning he referring that rich and poor are equal 
In this quatrain he is sitting a conversation with the sleep starting his conversation with beging 
the sleep to come to him by saying "O sleep" 
 His aiming for two important things in this part 
1­ Let us start to treat each other in a better way because we are equal 

2­ The word " peace " represent his idea that he want the people first to find the peace 
within their self rather than saying that government is unfair with us. 

With shield of proof shield me from out the prease

Of those fierce darts despair at me doth throw:
O make in me those civil wars to cease;
I will good tribute pay, if thou do so.

 Saying if my beging didn’t make you agree I'll use another Technique... that he is going to 
give the slee a money .he is clarify his own pain inside by Saying that the war inside him is 
like a several war between his mind and heart this is an important point he is referring to 
the clashes between Christian and protagonist The direct massage. 
 
Take thou of me smooth pillows, sweetest bed,
A chamber deaf to noise and blind to light,
A rosy garland and a weary head:
And if these things, as being thine by right,
 
      he said if you come I will give you a beautiful room . 
 
Move not thy heavy grace, thou shalt in me,

      he comes in a way to convert the sleep to come to him by saying the last couplet 
Here is an ironic from the beginning he is the declare that he want to sleep to forget about 
his love ironically he ended the only way to convert the sleep to come  saying dear sleep 
is you make me sleep I will let you see my beloved and enjoy her beauty with me. 
 
Critic say that the couplet is ironic that the thing he wants to forget about is the only thing 
that will make the sleep come but why he told the sleep that he will make him see his 
love? That he couldn't see her in reality perhaps in dream he will be able to do everything 
in his dream. 
 
Why Philip sidney consider to be a great writer? Because he stated the rules for pre 
romantic as a romantic and using the technique of imagination. 
 
the structure: 
Shakespearean sonnet consist of 3 quatrains and 1 couplet  . the Rhyme scheme is  
ABAB CDCD EE . the subject matter is about love and his beloved. 
 
Theme: 
1­ Love verses reason : philip sidney in his poem he kindly addressed love showing us 
love exists how ever we should control it and make a balance with love and reason in 
order to live a healthier life . 

2­ Peace:  philip sidney addressed the theme of peace which is a very important idea of 
that time since England pass through several wars . Sidney asks the people to have a 
strength to control their emotion and be reasonable in their life .when person start to 
make a peace on his self then, the community will be peaceful.
