The two trendy districts between the Altstadt-
ring road and Isar River are usually thought of
together: Separated only by Fraunhoferstraße, the
Gärtnerplatz district extends east and the Glocken-
bachviertel to the west. The districts are named
after Friedrich von Gärtner, an architect in the 19th
century under King Ludwig I, and the Glockenbach
stream, which today runs mostly underground.
