Research paper:
Innovative Developments in HCI and Future Trends

Summary
This paper summarizes that the recent developments in technology have made noteworthy
positive impacts on the human-computer interaction (HCI). It is now possible to interact with
computers using voice commands, touchscreen, eye movement, hand gesture, etc. Latest HCI
innovations have made many technologies, e.g., virtual reality, personal digital assistants,
biometric authentication, e.g., fingerprint scanner available to us and have made our lives
convenient, secure etc. Nowadays, we can monitor our health, manage our daily schedules, and
navigate from one place to another using different forms of hardware and software HCIs. In the
desktop computing HCI, many areas, e.g., real-time translation of one natural language into
another, object recognition from images, low-cost virtual studio, 3D scanner to produce 3D
printed models, can be identified as the future researches. On the other hand, for mobile
computing, e.g., eye movement tracking, hand gesture recognition. This paper compiles some of
the innovative HCI progresses in various areas, e.g., specialized input/output devices, virtual or
augmented reality, wearable technology, etc. It also identifies some future research directions.

Identification of Eye Moments from Non-frontal Face Images
For Eye-Controlled Systems

Summary
This research paper summarize that many new technologies are being researched
today for thousands of disabled people in order to improve their mobility and communication,
improve the quality of their lives, and enable a more independent and autonomous way of living.
Higher chances of integrating into society. One of these cutting-edge technologies that is gaining
popularity is the intelligent human-computer interaction (HCI) system based on visual
information. A sequence of continuous eye movements are used as input by the eye-based HCI
system to carry out basic control tasks. The most frequent eye movements are blinks, fixations,
and saccades. The eye-based HCI system can be broadly divided into two categories: invasive
and active versus non-invasive and passive, depending on the technologies used to record eye
motions. In order to measure the resting potential of the retina reflecting to the user's eye
movements, the active electrooculography (EOG) system requires the attachment of 3-5
electrodes on the skin around the eye region , which is intrusive and painful for the user.
Additionally, the accuracy of recording the EOG signal would be reduced by the contact
resistance that exists between the skin and the electrodes. The experiment demonstrates that,
with an average recognition rate of 86.67%, our technique can recognize eye horizontal and
vertical movements from 420 non-frontal face photos in 30 degree. Additionally, we take a
sample of faces from various users that wear glasses. Results indicate that we are still able to
recognize these faces, locate the pupil's center in the camera's 30 degree side orientations, and
discern facial expressions. We have a lot of confidence thanks to the success of the simulation
experiment on the Mat lab platform. It nudges us toward recognizing the physical system with
electrical apparatus. Thus, it is our current task.
