Subject: Soliciting participants for MTP-Symposium on UAS-Electronics (SUAVE).

Dear Sir,

IIT Madras is one of the five resource centers for a Ministry of Electronics and Information
Technology (MeitY)-funded project titled “Capacity building for human resource development in
Unmanned Aircraft System (Drone and related Technology)”. As part of the project, the
Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Madras is organizing a seven-day symposium
under the framework of the master trainer program (MTP) titled “MTP-Symposium on UAS-
Electronics (SUAVE)”. The symposium attendees would include faculty from IIT Madras, IIT (ISM)
Dhanbad, IIT Indore, MNIT Jaipur, other centrally-funded technical institutes (CFTIs), and
scientists from CDAC and NIELIT.

The symposium would be held between 26 December 2022 to 01 January 2023. The
symposium would have twenty sessions of two hours duration each spread over seven days. A
tentative program of the symposium is attached. Each session is broken down into three
segments: i) During the first 40 minutes, there will be a presentation by a panel of faculty working
on the topic of the session regarding state-of-the-art in technology and future directions; ii) During
the next 40 minutes, there would be discussions between the panel and the rest of the attendees
on the topic; iii) In the last 40 minutes, the attendees would come out with action points on the
topic, namely the projects that the group could work (one slide of objectives and scope of work for
each project) and ideas for a white paper on future directions vis-a-vis policy interventions required
to advance UAS electronics.

The tentative list of topics that are to be covered in the symposium include, but are not limited to:

● UAS sensors and actuators, distributed sensing, and multi-sensor data fusion
● Image processing and data interpretation
● Onboard computers, avionics, and flight control systems
● Propulsion systems, including battery technology
● Ground control systems, Radar, ground-based UAS detection systems

● System validation and testing
● Leveraging consumer electronics
● Drone regulations

We solicit participation from faculty of your institute to the said symposium. For effective interaction
between the attendees, we are restricting the total number of attendees to about fifty. Therefore,
there will be a restriction of three attendees per institution. No accommodation will be provided.
Travel and accommodation are to be taken care of by the participants themselves. In addition,
there will be a registration charge of Rs. 7,000 per attendee. The registration charges are to cover
lunch and refreshments. Dinner and breakfast are to be arranged by the attendees themselves as
per their convenience. Kindly forward the list of attendees to deva@smail.iitm.ac.in.
